What the job looks like from start to finish
Inspect the track, pivots and panels before adjusting
A bent track or split panel cannot be tuned away.
- • Check that the top track is straight, tight and free of debris.
- • Check panel hinges and pivot sockets for looseness or cracks.
- • Support the door while inspecting bottom and top pivot engagement.
Verify before moving on: The door and hardware are sound enough to adjust or the failed part is identified.
Seat the bottom pivot and top guide correctly
Bifold geometry starts at the pivot side.
- • Set the bottom pivot fully into its bracket.
- • Compress/guide the top pivot and guide roller into the track according to the hardware design.
- • Confirm the pivot pins are not barely catching the edge of their sockets.
Verify before moving on: Both pivot points and the guide are fully engaged.
Adjust height and side position a little at a time
Small pivot changes affect floor clearance, jamb gap and meeting gap.
- • Use the pivot adjustments to make the pivot-side gap nearly parallel.
- • Close the door after each small change and compare top/bottom gaps.
- • Do not force threaded pivots past their safe engagement range.
Verify before moving on: Door clears the floor/jamb and gaps are reasonably even.
Tune the top guide and snug hardware
The guide should control the folding motion without binding.
- • Set the top guide/bracket position so the door closes without excessive spring pressure.
- • Tighten track and bracket fasteners into sound backing.
- • Lubricate only if the hardware manufacturer calls for it; keep debris-attracting lubricant out of open tracks when unnecessary.
Verify before moving on: Door folds smoothly and remains captured in the track.
Cycle the door repeatedly
A repair that falls out after two openings is not finished.
- • Open and close the door at least ten times.
- • Confirm pivots stay seated and the guide does not jump the track.
- • Recheck screws and gaps after cycling.
Verify before moving on: Door stays aligned, closes normally, and hardware remains secure.
Important limits and checks
• Support the door when disengaging pivots so it cannot fall.
• Do not compensate for split panels or broken hardware with overtight adjustment.
