Prepare the vehicle safely
Stable support matters more than convenience.
- • Park on a firm level surface and secure the vehicle against movement.
- • If lifting is required, use only the specified lift/support points and equipment rated for the vehicle.
- • Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack.
Safety: Vehicle lifting can be fatal if done incorrectly. Use manufacturer lift points, rated stands/equipment, a firm surface, and wheel chocks as applicable.
Drain the old oil and service the plug
Control hot oil and protect the drain threads.
- • Position the drain pan before loosening the plug.
- • Remove the plug carefully and allow oil to drain.
- • Inspect the plug and sealing washer/gasket and replace the seal when specified.
- • Reinstall by hand first to avoid cross-threading; use HomeVerity lookup required only when HomeVerity has verified that value for this exact vehicle.
Safety: Engine oil and exhaust components can be hot enough to burn skin. Allow appropriate cooling and use gloves/eye protection.
Replace the verified oil filter
Do not buy or install a filter until fitment has been resolved.
- • Remove the filter and verify its sealing gasket is not stuck to the engine.
- • Prepare and install the replacement according to its and the vehicle manufacturer's directions.
- • Do not use a generic filter-tightening rule when the product gives a specific instruction.
Verify before moving on: Only one filter gasket is present and the filter is correctly seated.
Fill, run, inspect, and set final level
Capacity is a starting reference; final level is verified using the vehicle's specified procedure.
- • Resolve the vehicle-specific capacity before filling.
- • Start the engine only after confirming the drain plug and filter are installed.
- • Check immediately for leaks, shut down, wait as specified, and verify the oil level using the manufacturer procedure.
- • Reset the oil-life monitor if applicable and record mileage/date.
Verify before moving on: No leaks are present and the oil level is correct by the specified checking procedure.
